Benzema’s unlucky week: Missed penalty, scored an own goal, had goals taken away twice by VAR

Although he still plays with great effort, dedication and shows excellent personal qualities, it seems that Karim Benzema does not have the same luck. Last night, he missed the opportunity to score twice with a missed penalty kick and a situation rejected by VAR. It caused Benzema to go through a nightmare week.

Meeting Al Wehda, Al Ittihad blew the opponent’s net in the 30th minute. But VAR intervened and the decision was made that Benzema, the scorer, committed a foul in a dispute with the opponent.

An unlucky day came for Benzema’s club when 5 minutes later, Al Ittihad let their opponents open the score. By the end of the first half, Al Ittihad was facing a better opportunity to equalize. The referee awarded them a penalty, but Benzema, who was in charge, failed to execute.

This is not the first penalty kick Karim Benzema has missed in an Al Ittihad shirt, but the third one. Once at the recent FIFA Club World Cup, once in the match against Al Hilal in the quarterfinals of the Saudi King Cup.
