Lewandowski is number 1, Liverpool and Bayern dominate the Top 100

Although there are no famous individual award events during the year, The Guardian is famous for voting for the Top 100 best players of the year. They just announced the Top 100 list of 2020, with Robert Lewandowsk i’s extremely convincing victory.

Over the past year, everyone had to acknowledge the excellence of the Polish striker, when he had 45 goals in 40 matches. The 32-year-old striker was the top scorer on three fronts to help Bayern Munich win the historic treble for the second time. With his performance, this striker with 253 goals in 333 Bundesliga matches dominated the votes.

Of the 241 experts who voted, 201 voted for Lewandowski at number 1, accounting for 83%. Historically, only Lionel Messi is the only person to have ever received 100% of the votes for the number 1 position (in 2012), but at that time there were only 11 people in the Voting Council.This year, Messi received 5% of the votes for the number position, followed by Kevin de Bruyne, Sadio Mane (2%), Manuel Neuer, Cristiano Ronaldo (1%).

In addition, Lewandowski is one of 12 players named in the Top 100 in all The Guardian polls since 2012. The others include Messi , Ronaldo, Neymar, Eden Hazard, Luka Modric, Sergio Agüero, Luis Suárez, Thiago Silva, Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema.

Liverpool has the most players in the Top 100

In 2020, despite not being able to defend the Champions League title, with their first Premier League crown and an exciting performance, Liverpool had the most players in the Top 100 – 12 people. Meanwhile, Bayern – the Champions League champion has 11 people.

The number of Chelsea players also increased to 5 compared to 3 in 2019, while Manchester City’s number decreased (from 11 in 2018 and 2019 to 7).In terms of nationality, thanks to Bayern’s victory, Germany took 1st place with 12 players. Next is France (11), Brazil (10), England (9). The countries with players entering the Top 100 for the first time are Canada, Hungary, Ghana, with Alphonso Davies, Dominik Szoboszlai and Thomas Partey.

Although both Zlatan Ibrahimovic (39 years old) and Jesus Navas (35) reappeared, the average age of the Top 100 decreased from 27.56 to 27.25. There are two players aged 18 in the Top 100: Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes and Ansu Fati of Barcelona .

In terms of tournaments, the Premier League still has the largest number – 35 players, although down 2 compared to last year. Notably, famous players who do not have enough points to reach the Top 100 in 2020 include Koke (101), Stefan de Vrij (102), Gabriel Barbosa (103), Dejan Kulusevski (106), Paul Pogba (109), Adama Traoré (114), Iago Aspas (120).

A total of 315 players were named on the ballots, including, Kaoru Mitoma, Yeferson Soteldo, Jordan Larsson, Yann Sommer, Hirving Lozano, Jens Petter Hauge, Yannick Carrasco, Vedat Muriqi, Rodrigo Moreno, Lukas Hradecky and Jan Vertonghen Each has only 1 vote.

There are two players who appeared right from the first votes but this year did not make the Top 100: Edinson Cavani and Sergio Busquets.
