Mbappe wants to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics

Striker Kylian Mbappe hopes to soon determine his future at the club level before Euro 2024, then participate in the Olympics in his home country of Paris.

Olympic men’s soccer takes place from July 24 to August 11. According to the rules, teams participating in men’s soccer at the Olympics can name three players over 23 years old, paving the way for Mbappe and other French stars to participate in the tournament at home. However, FIFA does not require clubs to release troops for this tournament.

Mbappe is said to have decided not to renew with PSG and will join Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024. According to ESPN , Real has sent a notice to the French Football Federation (FFF), that they will not release the team’s players. for the Olympics.

In the press conference before the friendly match with Germany, Mbappe affirmed that he always had the ambition to attend the Olympics, and attending the tournament at home is special. However, the striker admitted that this does not depend on him. “I couldn’t say anything because no one told me anything,” the 25-year-old striker expressed. “If I can’t go to the Olympics, then I can’t do anything else. I’m talking about PSG, because I have a contract with the team. We haven’t discussed going to the Olympics.”

Mbappe also hopes to be able to announce his future before Euro 2024 so he can focus on playing with the French team. “I haven’t announced anything yet because I have nothing to announce. I’m sorry I have nothing to say right now,” the 2018 World Cup champion expressed. “I always say that when I have something to announce, I will do it as a man.”

Meanwhile, coach Didier Deschamps said some players attending Euro 2024 will likely also be part of the Olympic team led by legend Thierry Henry at the Olympics in Paris. However, the France coach emphasized that participating in two consecutive tournaments like this is very difficult both mentally and physically.

Deschamps wants to know which players will attend the Olympics before the Euros start to stabilize the preparations of both teams. Euro 2024 takes place from June 14 to July 14, while men’s soccer at the Paris Olympics kicks off on July 24 with the final taking place on August 9.

Deschamps also affirmed that playing against Germany is always an interesting match, even if it is a friendly. “This was not a competitive match, but it was still great,” the 55-year-old coach said. “All matches are important. The coaching staff and I will review them carefully to make the final list. There are always lessons to be learned.”

During this gathering, Mbappe will play friendly matches with France against Germany on March 23 and Chile on March 26.
