Chelsea aims to see Real Madrid upgrade its defense

According to Don Balon, Chelsea is planning to recruit Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy, thereby upgrading the left wing.

This season, Chelsea’s left-back position has repeatedly caused Pochettino headaches. Number 1 choice Ben Chilwell often has to miss games due to injury, while Marc Cucurella is a huge disappointment. He could not meet the £63 million fee that the Blues paid for him. Coach Pochettino even had to use Levi Colwill as left-back.

According to Metro, under pressure from Financial Fair Play law, Chelsea may have to cut losses on Marc Cucurella, with a fee of only about 30 million pounds. Newcastle is looking to increase their personnel on the left wing, so they pay special attention to Marc Cucurella.

Coach Mauricio Pochettino allowed Cucurella to leave Stamford Bridge as he tried to cut staff. However, if Cucurella is sold, the London team will have to bring in a new left-back. According to Don Balon, Chelsea is planning to recruit Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy, thereby upgrading the left wing.

Mendy is on Real Madrid’s liquidation list, in the context that Alphonso Davies wants to leave Bayern Munich to join the Bernabeu. Mendy’s contract is only valid until 2025. Chelsea will not spend too much on the transfer fee to get the signature of the 28-year-old French player.

The London team is expected to spend about 30 million pounds to get Mendy. So if they sell Cucurella, the Blues will use this money to bring in the French star.
