Jim Parsons and Iain Armitage have a cute reunion as Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage gets ready to move on from Sheldon. While both actors appeared in the Young Sheldon finale, playing different versions of the same character, they never shared the screen. Despite that, The Big Bang Theory prequel gave the socially inept genius a touching send-off, which ended the character’s TV run for 17 years. Now, Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Steven Holland are gearing up to launch the newest installment in the franchise, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Ahead of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s premiere, which won’t feature Sheldon, Parsons and Armitage recently had a sweet reunion. Check out the images from Armitage‘s Instagram below:
In the social media post, Armitage revealed that he watched Parsons’ Broadway play, Our Town. Interestingly, there’s no reference to their shared role as Sheldon or mention of The Big Bang Theory universe.
What Sheldon’s Absence Means For Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Can Embrace Its Grounded Storytelling
The Big Bang Theory universe’s storytelling will shift its focus towards Montana Jordan and Emily Osment’s characters in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. While it picks up a couple of months after George’s death, the couple and Baby Cece living with the McAllisters effectively separates them from the Coopers. That said, Meemaw, Mary, and Missy will make an appearance. Since Sheldon is in California, the series can get away with not featuring him. Admittedly, this is a big change to the TV universe that had put him at the center of its storytelling for 17 years.
Sheldon will be missed, but that also means Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage‘s storytelling will be more grounded. While science and pop culture were the main themes in Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, the upcoming project can focus on the family dynamics of Georgie, Mandy, and Cece, and how that impacts their other relationships. It’s a new approach to the universe, but considering how popular the familial aspect of Young Sheldon was, it has a good chance of also becoming a hit, like its predecessors, despite its fresh premise.
Our Take On The Big Bang Theory Franchise Moving On From Sheldon
Sheldon Dominated The Big Bang Theory Franchise For 17 Years
Sheldon was an interesting character made better by both Parsons and Armitage. However, it’s time for The Big Bang Theory franchise to move on from him. The latter seasons of Young Sheldon proved this, as the rest of the Cooper family was getting more compelling storylines compared to its supposed titular character. By then, the show had explored all aspects of Sheldon. Understandably, transitioning to a proper family sitcom with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage poses some risks. However, with largely the same team behind it as its predecessors, it has a good chance of also succeeding.
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will premiere on Thursday, October 17, at 8 pm ET on CBS.
