Young Sheldon may have already ended, but The Big Bang Theory continues to ruin it after a new Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage story reveal. Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady’s 2007 sitcom may have a problematic past, primarily because of its brand of comedy, but it still became one of the most popular sitcoms of recent years. So, although The Big Bang Theory ended in 2019, CBS continues to keep its universe alive with a couple of spinoffs. Despite eventually carving its path, it’s only fair to say that its parent series played a pivotal part in Young Sheldon‘s success.
Originally intended to be Sheldon’s origins story, Young Sheldon outgrew its premise and subsequently found its own identity as a family comedy-drama. It was criticized for its lax approach to preserving canon, but occasionally, breaking it was the only way for the prequel to thrive. Some of Sheldon’s childhood stories in The Big Bang Theory were far too ridiculous to execute. In the end, however, it still opted to let continuity dictate its fate, forcing the spinoff not just to kill off George despite being a fan-favorite, but also to end Young Sheldon even though it was very popular.

The Big Bang Theory franchise will continue, however, with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. Set after the Young Sheldon finale, the new show will continue its lead stars’ romance as they raise their daughter, Cece. While its storytelling effectively shifts its focus to Mandy’s family, the McAllisters, the Coopers will also have some presence, including Missy. Unfortunately, instead of being a fun addition to the project, EP Steve Holland confirmed that when Sheldon’s twin returns in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, she will continue her rebellious streak. In fact, part of Georgie’s role is to keep her in check.

Missy’s rebellion arc ended in Young Sheldon season 6 when she promised George that she would behave moving forward. Unfortunately, however, her redemption arc is getting derailed because of The Big Bang Theory canon. As adult Georgie revealed to Sheldon during their emotional confrontation in the nerd-centric sitcom, he took care of the family after George unexpectedly died because Mary was overwhelmed by grief while Missy was acting like a dumb teenager. Given the timeline, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage can’t feature his sister without depicting her as such. Otherwise, the spinoff will be breaking The Big Bang Theory canon.

After her stint in Young Sheldon, Mary will officially be replaced by a more dangerous matriarch in CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
If it weren’t for this part of the established The Big Bang Theory continuity, there would be so many other fun storylines that Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage could do with Missy. Since Young Sheldon underutilized her, not much was revealed about her life outside of home. Instead, she was treated like an afterthought for most of the series, hence why she barely had any personal arc. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage could have featured her as Cece’s fun aunt or Mandy’s cheerful and funny sister-in-law. Instead, Missy’s upcoming storyline will have to be rather dark and serious.
