The story of a dog locked up and neglected by its owner, left to cry with a deformed face, is a heartbreaking reminder of the cruelty and abuse that many animals face in the world. It is a tragedy that speaks to the broader issues of neglect, abandonment, and the mistreatment of animals that are often unseen by society. While some animals are fortunate enough to be surrounded by loving families who provide them with care and protection, others are not so lucky, enduring unimaginable suffering in silence.
This article will explore the emotional and physical impact of neglect on animals, particularly focusing on dogs, as well as the importance of responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, and the efforts required to rescue and rehabilitate animals who have suffered abuse. We will also discuss the emotional toll this neglect takes not only on the animal but also on society, urging everyone to reflect on their role in preventing such cruelty and advocating for the rights and well-being of animals.
The Concept of Animal Neglect and Abuse
Animal neglect and abuse refer to the mistreatment of animals by their owners or other individuals, often resulting in physical harm, emotional distress, or even death. Neglect occurs when an animal’s basic needs—such as food, water, shelter, and medical care—are not provided for or are grossly inadequate. Abuse, on the other hand, can involve direct physical harm, emotional abuse, or a deliberate attempt to cause suffering.
When a dog is neglected, it often faces severe consequences, both physically and emotionally. Neglect can manifest in various forms, such as inadequate nutrition, failure to provide proper veterinary care, lack of socialization, and, in extreme cases, physical confinement, as in the case of the dog described in this story. A dog’s welfare depends on the attention, love, and care of its owner. When these basic needs are not met, the dog can suffer from long-term physical and psychological damage.
The Emotional Toll of Neglect on Dogs
Dogs, like humans, experience a range of emotions, and when subjected to neglect, they undergo significant emotional distress. They can feel fear, anxiety, loneliness, and sadness, just as humans do. This emotional suffering is often the most overlooked aspect of animal neglect. While we may be quick to focus on the physical toll of mistreatment, the psychological effects can be just as devastating.
In the case of the dog locked away and neglected, the emotional toll of being isolated from the world is immense. Dogs are social animals, and they thrive on interaction with humans and other animals. Being confined in isolation without any form of companionship or stimulation can lead to deep feelings of loneliness and depression. The dog’s cries for help are a direct expression of this emotional pain—crying is one of the few ways dogs communicate distress.
When a dog is neglected for an extended period, it may develop behavioral issues such as aggression, fearfulness, or excessive dependence on others. These issues are often a result of the dog’s inability to form healthy attachments or receive proper socialization during critical developmental stages. Additionally, the lack of positive reinforcement and proper care can severely affect the dog’s ability to trust humans, leading to long-lasting psychological trauma.
Physical Consequences of Neglect
Neglecting a dog’s basic needs can result in severe physical consequences. The most obvious of these is malnutrition, which can lead to weight loss, weakness, and an overall decline in the dog’s health. Dogs who are not provided with enough food or water can suffer from dehydration and organ failure. Moreover, when the dog is kept in unsanitary conditions, such as being locked in a confined space without access to proper shelter, they may develop infections or diseases.
One of the most tragic aspects of neglect is the physical deformity or injuries that may occur as a result of prolonged suffering. The dog in this story, whose face became deformed, likely suffered from a lack of proper medical care or attention. It’s possible that the deformity resulted from untreated injuries, malnutrition, or infections that were left unchecked by the owner. Animals that are not given access to veterinary care may develop chronic conditions, such as untreated fractures, dental issues, or infections, that can cause lifelong damage.
The dog’s cries were likely a result of the physical pain caused by these untreated conditions. Just as humans would cry out in pain when injured or suffering, animals express their distress in similar ways. Unfortunately, in the case of neglected animals, these cries often go unheard, and the suffering continues until intervention occurs.
The Role of Animal Welfare Organizations

In cases of severe neglect and abuse like the one described in this story, the intervention of animal welfare organizations is crucial. Animal rescue organizations and shelters play a vital role in rescuing abused and neglected animals, providing them with medical care, and rehabilitating them. These organizations often work tirelessly to rescue animals from dangerous and life-threatening situations, giving them a second chance at life.
When a neglected dog is rescued, the first step is to assess its physical and emotional state. A veterinarian will perform a thorough examination to determine any injuries or health issues that need immediate attention. This may include treating infections, addressing malnutrition, and providing pain relief. Additionally, the dog may need to be given vaccinations, dewormed, and spayed or neutered if necessary.
Rehabilitation is just as important as medical treatment for a neglected dog. Once the dog’s physical needs are met, the focus shifts to its emotional well-being. Rehabilitation often involves rebuilding the dog’s trust in humans through positive reinforcement and consistent care. This process can take time, as many abused and neglected dogs struggle with fear and anxiety. It is essential that the rescue organization provides a safe and loving environment where the dog can heal and gradually learn to trust again.
In addition to rescuing and rehabilitating animals, animal welfare organizations also play a significant role in raising awareness about the issue of animal cruelty. Many organizations engage in education and advocacy to promote responsible pet ownership and prevent abuse. They also work with lawmakers to create and enforce stricter laws against animal cruelty, ensuring that those who mistreat animals are held accountable.
The Importance of Responsible Pet Ownership
The case of the neglected dog highlights the critical need for responsible pet ownership. Owning a pet is a long-term commitment that requires time, effort, and resources. Pet owners are responsible for providing their animals with the essentials: food, water, shelter, and medical care. They must also ensure that their pets are given proper training, socialization, and attention to help them develop into well-adjusted animals.
When a pet owner fails to meet these basic needs, the animal suffers. In extreme cases, as seen in this story, neglect can lead to physical harm, emotional trauma, and even death. Pet owners must understand that adopting an animal is a lifelong responsibility, and they should be prepared to care for their pets for the duration of their lives. This includes providing them with regular veterinary care, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring they are not left alone for extended periods of time.
Moreover, it is essential that pet owners recognize the signs of neglect or abuse in their animals. Dogs and other pets often suffer in silence, unable to communicate their pain directly to their owners. As responsible pet owners, it is crucial to be vigilant and attentive to the needs of our animals. If a dog is crying, showing signs of illness, or displaying behavioral changes, it is essential to seek help immediately. Early intervention can prevent further harm and ensure the well-being of the animal.
The Need for Societal Change and Advocacy
While individual responsibility is important, the issue of animal neglect and abuse also requires a societal response. Laws against animal cruelty must be enforced, and greater resources should be allocated to animal welfare organizations that work tirelessly to rescue and care for abused animals. Animal abuse is often hidden behind closed doors, and many animals suffer in silence without anyone to advocate for them. It is essential that we, as a society, speak up and take action to prevent cruelty.
One of the most significant ways we can help is by reporting suspected cases of animal abuse. If you witness a dog or any other animal being mistreated, it is important to report it to the authorities or animal rescue organizations. In many areas, there are hotlines and online platforms where concerned citizens can report abuse or neglect anonymously. This can help protect animals from further harm and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Moreover, educating the public about animal cruelty and the importance of responsible pet ownership is key to preventing future abuse. By promoting awareness and understanding, we can encourage more people to adopt pets from shelters, provide proper care, and intervene when they witness abuse. We all have a responsibility to ensure that animals are treated with respect and kindness, and this begins with education and advocacy.
Conclusion: A Call to Action
The tragic story of the dog locked away and neglected, left to cry with a deformed face, serves as a powerful reminder of the suffering that many animals endure in silence. It calls on us to take action, whether through supporting animal welfare organizations, advocating for stronger laws against animal cruelty, or becoming more responsible pet owners ourselves.
Animals, like the dog in this story, deserve to be treated with love, compassion, and respect. It is up to us to ensure that they receive the care they need and that those who abuse them are held accountable. Through collective effort and a commitment to ending animal cruelty, we can create a world where every dog, cat, and other animal can live free from fear, pain, and neglect. Let this story be a call to action for us all—to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and work towards a more compassionate society for all living beings.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the longest running brand in India, having been around for over three decades now. But sales really skyrocketed (by luxury car standards) with the introduction of the V213 long-wheelbase version, introduced in 2017, and from thereon, the E-Class became the best-selling model for the German car maker. Now, the all-new V214 E-Class, takes the same winning formula and promises to be more tech-laden and more comfortable than its predecessor. Here’s all that you should know about the all-new Mercedes E-Class that will likely be launched next month.
New Mercedes E-Class LWB exteriors, dimensions
The new E-Class is easily distinguishable from its predecessor thanks to its front styling that draws inspiration from modern Mercedes EQ models. Its large chrome grille sporting an oversized 3D logo surrounded by multiple smaller three-pointed stars sets the tone, and makes a statement that you’ve arrived. The gloss black panel surrounding the grille might not have a universal appeal and it is bound to stand out on a lighter body colour.

The long bonnet continues to feature power domes, and like its side profile is quite similar to its predecessor. New are the S-Class-type flush type door handles, as well as the 18-inch wheels. Incidentally, the 225/55 R18 tyre profile is identical to the new BMW 5-series, however the design as well as the wheel-to-body ratio makes the Mercedes look far more proportionate than its competitor.
At the rear it features new LED tail lamps with a tri-arrow pattern embedded within. Chrome has been generously used at the rear as well as on the sides (around the window line), which has been very tastefully executed, and nicely complements the display car’s Nautic Blue paint shade.

In terms of dimensions, it is 13mm taller and 14mm longer than the outgoing V213 version, and its wheelbase is 15mm longer too.
New Mercedes E-Class LWB interiors, comfort
The interior changes seem revolutionary due to its ‘Superscreen’ setup which includes a 14.4- inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen, in addition to the digital instrument cluster. These screens are outstanding in terms of usability, functionality as well as display, and the audio quality from its Burmester 4D surround sound system is simply outstanding.

The cabin’s touch and feel seems even better than the previous generation and it reeks of quality from every pore. Mercedes offers a choice of three interior colours – Cinnamon Brown, Macchiato Beige and Black. Irrespective of the choice, the dashboard is black, which is neatly contrasted with silver touches as well as horizontally-oriented air vents (which operate electrically).
What isn’t nice are its steering touch controls which are fiddly to use; the seat adjustment controller lacks feedback; and the general move towards touch controls will make some miss the satisfying click and tactile feel of high quality buttons as found in yesteryear models. That said, the front seats are very comfortable; these get thigh support adjustment as well as new neck pillows, which truly elevate seat comfort. The driver’s seat gets a memory option, however the passenger’s seat doesn’t and neither do the front seats get a ventilation function.

The highlight of this E-Class is undeniably its backseat experience.
The highlight of this E-Class is undeniably its backseat experience. The backrest reclines from 26-36 degrees (that’s one degree more than its predecessor) and like the front, it gets adjustable thigh support that extends by 40mm. Further the neck pillows only add to the supreme levels of comfort. It also gets a ‘Chauffeur Package’ as standard, wherein the rear (left) passenger can electrically move the front seat forward in the absence of a passenger, to free up more space. Like before, this place is best for two adults due to the seat contouring, high central floor hump and protruding air-con console which will make it uncomfortable for an adult to sit in the middle.
What’s nice is that the 510L, although not very tall, is very deep, and the space saver tyre is neatly tucked beneath the boot floor.

New Mercedes E-Class LWB features
Features of interest include the new Superscreen (14.4-inch central screen and 12.3-inch passenger touchscreen), Burmester 4D surround sound, ambient lights, a selfie camera, electric seat adjustment (all four), wireless charging (front and rear), soft-close doors, panoramic sunroof, four-zone climate control and an electric boot. There’s also a new front central airbag, taking the total airbag tally to 8. Like other models it gets Active Brake Assist, however a welcome change is that if the driver opts to turn off this feature, it remains off till it isn’t manually turned back on again.

New Mercedes E-Class LWB engine details
To start with, Mercedes will introduce a pair of four cylinder engines. There’s a 204hp 2-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates 320Nm of torque. The other engine is a 197hp 2-litre turbo-diesel unit which produces 440Nm of torque. Both are paired with 48V mild hybrid systems that lend an additional 23hp and 205Nm of torque. The petrol and diesel are mated to a 9-speed torque converter, transmitting power to the rear wheels. A point to note is that none of the variants get air-suspension, for the time being.

New Mercedes E-Class LWB expected price
The current Mercedes E-Class petrol range starts at Rs 76 lakhs while the diesel starts at Rs 77 lakh ex-showroom. With more kit and more tech, the new E-Class is likely to be a bit pricier, and we expect its starting prices to be Rs 82-83 lakh, which is likely to make it about Rs 10 lakh pricier than the recently launched new-gen BMW 5-Series.
