The MegaRexx MegaRaptor Is A Ford Super Duty On Steroid Overdose

Spread the love

The MegaRexx MegaRaptor is an armored monster with gigantic 43-inch tires that started life as a humble Ford Super Duty truck.

This is the story of a transformation. One that doesn’t care about size, brawn, MPG, or spark plugs. America is obsessed with trucks, and there is no going around that fact! There has always been an appetite for humongous vehicles which also tells us why Monster Jams are a wildly celebrated event across the country. So, the guys at North Carolina-based MegaRexx decided to channelize this love into making the MegaRaptor.

And yes, this monster of a truck makes the Ford F-150 Raptor insecure. Apart from the name, the MegaRaptor doesn’t share anything else with the F-150 Raptor. MegaRexx is strictly against gasoline engines here and makes this monster out of Heavy Duty offerings from Ford. The transformation is intricate and time-consuming, but the result will surely devour anything that comes at it on the roads!

MegaRexx looks to have been heavily inspired by Mad Max and other post-apocalyptic movies, as the MegaRaptor is armored to take a beating. Lifted suspensions with insanely large wheels, armored claddings, custom fiberglass exterior bits, and a stance to scare anyone makes the MegaRexx MegaRaptor quite the Mega Truck! The feature list is endless and MegaRexx truly can help you create the monster truck of your dreams.

MegaRexx MegaRaptor Is Based On The Ford Super Duty Line-Up

The Ford Super Duty lineup is the brawnier bunch in the F-Series. These heavy-duty trucks are the real deal and will not break a sweat, no matter what you throw at them. This is also one of the key reasons for MegaRexx to choose the Super Duty trucks for building the MegaRaptor. This Mega Truck is built from the heavy-duty bunch of Ford F-250, F-350, or F-450. And yes, the name is clearly mocking the beasty Ford F-150 Raptor! The hungry people at MegaRexx strip your humble Ford Super Duty as soon as they get their hands on one, and begin the transformation.

The MegaRaptor Can Only Be Had With A Diesel Heart

A gasoline engine will struggle to cope with the level of modification that the MegaRaptor gets. And so, the only donor powertrain of choice is the 6.7-liter Power Stroke Diesel V8 that churns out 475 HP and a whopping 1,050 lb-ft of torque to all 4 wheels. MegaRexx doesn’t make any modifications here, as frankly, you don’t need any. The stock layout of this V8 has enough grunt to smoothly glide this monster without any hiccups. MegaRexx Trucks is owned by Aaron Richardet who also owns Osprey Custom Cars that is known for making cool overland vehicles out of classic Land Rovers.

The Level Of Customizations On The MegaRaptor Is Insane

The whole transformation process is what has intrigued us the most. And we are talking about the base conversion here, which can be further dialed up as per the customer demands. So, it all starts with you dropping off the humble donor vehicle – any stock Ford Super Duty offering. The one you see here has been built on a Ford F-250 Crew Cab. The truck is torn down completely and they start with the lift kit, suspension, and tires first(more on that next).

It’s just not all show, as MegaRexx also re-gears the truck to 4:88 gears and gets tweaked ECU settings to help recognize the insane bump in tire diameter. This is to help the engine handle all that extra weight with ease. The underbody is heavily modified to hold the new suspension and axle tweaks with laser-cut steel elements. The bed and other demanded parts also get coated with LineX which gives the MegaRaptor additional levels of ruggedness and durability.

It gets custom fiberglass body panels for the front and rear fenders that are specific to hold those gigantic tires. This makes the truck a whole 9-inch wider than stock. The hood is latched from the cabin side and opens up forward. The list of customizations just goes on and on with custom bumpers, LED bars and Anzo switchback lighting, extended fuel tanks, and various towing accessories. And for the paint options, your imagination is the limit!

Tires And Suspension Are Its Beefiest Modifications

The most intensely modified parts here are the suspension and ‘on-the-face’ tires. It packs insanely huge 46-inch tires, each rated at 10,000 pounds; and it looks like MegaRexx worked their way around the tire! The tires are Michelin XZL 395/85R20 and are wrapped around 3-piece aluminum MRAP wheels with no spacers. All of the axle and suspension modifications are done to carry these hefty tires. The front axle is moved 1.5-inches forward to help those huge tires clear the firewall and get an ICON lift kit.

As for the shocks, it gets a 4.5-inch progressive coil spring upfront and 5-inch multi-lead springs at the rear. Ride height at the rear can be adjusted with Ford’s rear spring bump stops of different thicknesses. To further strengthen the suspension layout, the MegaRaptor gets stronger and longer radius arms and ICON adjustable track bar, a built-in air compressor, and Bilstein shocks. The brakes have also been upgraded to bitier EBC brakes.

3 Months Of Patience And A 50% Deposit To Start The Transformation

The MegaRexx MegaRaptor is a strip-down modification and takes its own sweet time. We are looking at a 2-3 month patience period here, for your Ford Heavy Duty to be transformed into a Raptor-shaming monster. You start the process by pitching in a $5,000 deposit to secure your place on the waiting list. You drop off the donor truck with a 50% deposit and the remaining is due at delivery. The level of modifications offered will surely make the outcome worth the wait.
