If you’ve been invested in the Cooper family since The Big Bang Theory, or you only recently became obsessed with Young Sheldon, you’re in luck – Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage is the second spinoff in this huge TV universe. Hype for the show has been absolutely unreal, and we’ve heard so many little snippets about what we can expect for this sequel. So, here’s a roundup of all the juicy deets we know about the Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, including the release date, who’s in the show and what storylines we can expect to see.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage release date is on the 17th of October
That’s right, we’ve only got to wait a couple more weeks until we get to jump back into Medford, Texas. Better go and pick out your best cowboy boots fast, because the show debuts its first ever episode on the 17th of October!
The title is deliberately a mouthful and will reflect the intriguing nature of the show
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage is a far cry from the simple Young Sheldon title, but director Steve Holland has promised it will make sense in time: “I don’t think it will be explored right away. I think how you should interpret that title, I hope, is intriguing, and a little playful, and a little mysterious.”
Missy will be returning as a series regular!
This is the ONLY news that matters when it comes to the spinoff. Everybody’s favourite character, Missy, will be returning, still being played by Raegan Revord. Yay!
There’s going to be canned laughter… *sigh*
Remember the annoying, unfunny laughing track we heard every 10 seconds in The Big Bang Theory? Remember how it disappeared in Young Sheldon? Well, to everyone’s dismay, it’s coming back for the spinoff. The criticism has been so bad, the Young Sheldon director has actually been forced to defend his decision, warning that: “the spinoff is seriously great. Funny but still with a ton of heart. If you miss Young Sheldon, don’t be sad; this show is here for you.”
Mandy’s dad, Jim, will take on a father figure for Georgie after the death of George
In a somewhat touching tribute, Montana Jordan has announced that Jim’s character will take on a lot of the fatherly responsibilities for Georgie after the passing of his own father at the end of the series.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Montana said: “I really love Georgie and Jim’s connection, and every storyline that they have together, it’s really great. So you get to see that and you get to see Jim comforting Georgie over his father’s death.”
Mandy’s brother, Connor, has been recast for the spinoff
You might remember Mandy’s brother, Connor, who appeared episodes of Young Sheldon towards the end of its run. He was originally played by Joseph Apollinio, however, he’s been replaced with Dougie Baldwin for the spinoff.
Spoiler alert – the ending doesn’t look good for Georgie
We already know Georgie’s in a very tough spot with the death of his father and his brother moving to Caltech meaning he’s going to step up and “take care of everything,” as he said at his dad’s funeral. However, things sadly might not improve for our leading man over the course of the show.
Chuck Lorre, creator of the spinoff, has said: “He’s 19 and he dropped out of high school. How smooth can it be? It’s going to be very hectic. It’s a bumpy ride, but the bumps are comedy if handled correctly. There are dramatic moments as well because they will face inevitable obstacles to staying together.”
